The Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) 2023 is set to take place from March 04 to March 26, 2023, organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This is the first season of the Women’s Premier League, also known as Women’s IPL 2023 or WPL T20 2023, and will be held after the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, before the start of the men’s IPL 2023.

As per the latest buzz, at least six out of the current 10 IPL franchises have shown initial interest in buying a WIPL team. The BCCI plans to hold an open bidding process for team ownership, which is expected to take place by the end of 2022.

On January 03, 2023, the BCCI announced the release of an Invitation to Tender for the right to own and operate a team in the Women’s Indian Premier League. The Women’s IPL auction 2023 will be held in February, with a total of five teams set to participate.

In a recent announcement, the BCCI revealed the successful bidders for the Women’s Premier League, granting them ownership rights for the tournament. Adani Sportsline Pvt Ltd, based in Ahmedabad, secured the highest bid with INR 1289 crore, followed by Indiawin Sports Pvt Ltd from Mumbai with INR 912.99 crore, and Royal Challengers Sports Pvt Ltd from Bengaluru with INR 901 crore. JSW GMR Cricket Pvt Ltd from Delhi secured the fourth bid with INR 810 crore, while Capri Global Holdings Pvt Ltd from Lucknow secured the fifth bid with INR 757 crore.

Viacom 18 has bagged the media rights for the inaugural five-year cycle of the Women’s IPL. The winning bid was INR 951 crore, which translates to a value of INR 7.09 crore per match for the 2023-2027 cycle.
